  • Can I buy Fishing Passes on the day of the contest?
    Yes, passes will be available until 2 PM on the day of the event. We do request that anglers not pre-registered online arrive by 10am. Join us for the kickoff meeting at 11:45 AM to start the contest.
  • What if I bought a pass but didn’t receive it?

  • Can I buy Fishing Passes for my family or friends?
    Yes! Passes bought under your name can be used by others however, once a pass is redeemed, it cannot be transferred. Each Contestant is allowed to have up to two fishing holes (I.E two tickets max per person). If you buy a fishing pass the day of or if you pre-registered online beforehand - you can pick your fishing passes up at the registration booth before the contest.
  • Does my pass include a raffle entry?
    No, the raffle requires a separate ticket. Buy raffle tickets separately (Must be 18 years or older to participate).
  • Can I fish without a pass?
    No, you need your pass to fish and to have your fish weighed. Your pass will be required to be visible at all times during the contest.
  • What time should I arrive?
    Arrive at Running Aces Parking lot between 9 AM and 10 AM to catch the shuttle to the contest grounds located on Forest Lake #1. We do request anglers who are not pre-registered online to arrive by 10am to secure their spot in the fishing contest. The kickoff announcement is at 11:45 AM (Anglers participating are required to attend), and fishing passes will be available until 2 PM the day of. Following the contest, we will hold raffle drawings, announcements (etc.).
  • What if I need to leave my fishing hole?
    You must pull your line and clear your hole if you leave. Friends or family cannot watch your line. Sharing holes is not allowed and may lead to disqualification.
  • Can I get a fishing pass before the event?
    Yes, fishing passes can be purchased on our website before the event and can be purchased in-person at the contest until 2pm the day of. Raffle tickets are separate and must be bought in person. Check the tickets tab for details.
  • Can I park at the event?
    There will be no parking available by the Forest Lake Ice Classic near or around the contest grounds or area. Please use our free shuttles from Running Aces starting at 9AM. Should you stay the night on the ice before the contest, we may ask you to move.
  • How long do the shuttles run?
    Shuttles run from 9 AM to 6 PM. Our contest is within this time frame, so you won’t miss the shuttles. Arriving early is highly recommended as we request that anglers who are not pre-registered be in line by 10am.
  • Can I bring items on the shuttle?
    Most items are allowed, but Liquid Propane (L.P) is not. You can drop off L.P items at a secure location before the event.
  • What gear can I bring?
    You can bring buckets, chairs, heaters, coolers, warm clothing, plastic bags, plastic fish holders, chisels, cash, cards, fishing poles, jigs, tip-ups and other accessories. (See full rules for details). No Electronics, portables or wheelhouses are allowed. Live bait will be available for purchase on-site - outside live bait will not be allowed in. Dry bait is allowed (I.E Waxies). Note: Liquid Propane (L.P) is not allowed on the shuttle. Coolers will be checked before the event.
  • Can I bring an auger?
    No, holes will be pre-drilled by volunteers. Choose from the designated area.
  • Can I bring my own bait to use at the Forest Lake Classic event?
    No, you cannot bring your own live bait to use. We have carefully selected and provided live bait that will be available for purchase on-site. This ensures a consistent experience for all participants and helps maintain the integrity of the event. Dry bait is allowed (I.E Waxies).
  • Can I bring electronic equipment (e.g., fish finders)?
    No, electronic equipment is not allowed. We want to keep the contest fair for everyone. Leave such equipment in your vehicle or risk being disqualified.
  • Who benefits from this contest?
    All proceeds support veterans and local high school fishing teams alike. Stay until the end of the event in order to see what charities benefit from this year's event.
  • Where is the event located?
    The contest will be on Forest Lake #1 on February 8th, 2025. The raffle will be held right after. Contestants will be asked to ride the shuttle from Running Aces the day of.
  • Will there be vendors?
    Yes, there will be vendors, including those selling ice fishing products.
  • When can I enter the contest?
    The grounds open at 9 AM. We ask everyone to take the shuttle over from Running Aces Hotel.
  • What are the contest times?
    The ice fishing contest starts at 12 PM and ends at 3 PM. Attend the 11:45 AM kickoff meeting beforehand while grounds will open at 9am.
  • Can my friends and family watch me?
    Yes, spectators are welcome, but they cannot attend or watch your fishing hole for you. Keep your fishing pass visible.
  • What do I do if I catch a fish?
    Northern Pike: All from 22-26" must be immediately released by contestant and will not be weighed.​​ Register any fish you catch at the contest (See full rules). Follow Minnesota State Law and clear your holes. Bring the fish you would like to be weighed at the weigh station. (2 at a time max). Notify officials if you wish to mount any fish. All fish will be examined for weight, and attempts at fraud will be prosecuted.
  • Do I need a fishing license?
    Yes, a fishing license is required. We follow all local and Minnesota fishing laws.
  • Can someone fish two holes at the Forest Lake Ice Classic event?
    Yes, participants at the Forest Lake Classic event can fish from two holes. However, it is required to purchase a second ticket for this privilege. Each ticket corresponds to one fishing hole, so buying two tickets will allow you to fish at two holes. Please note: There is a maximum limit of two holes per participant, meaning each person can buy and use up to two tickets. This ensures fair access and ample space for all attendees to enjoy the event.
  • Can I take my prizes home the day of the event?
    Smaller prizes can be taken home on the day of the event. Major prizes (e.g., Grand Prize, Ice Castle Fish House) must be scheduled to be picked up at a later time from Ice Castle USA in Forest Lake, MN.
  • When can I go onto contest grounds?
    The shuttle from Running Aces will start at 9am, while the grounds will also be open at 9am.
  • Can I purchase raffle tickets online?
    No, raffle tickets are only available in person (Must be 18 years or older). Visit our raffle ticket locations tab for details. Please note: Raffle participation and rules are separate from the Ice Fishing Contest.
  • Will an ATM be on site?
    Yes, there will be an ATM on-site for your convenience.
  • Will there be bathrooms on-site?
    Yes, port-a-johns will be available on-site and near the shuttle area.
  • Will Liquid Propane (L.P) be sold on-site?
    No, L.P will not be sold at the event. Please bring enough to keep warm. We aim to have a warming house, but it’s not guaranteed. Please note: (L.P) Liquid Propane is not allowed on the shuttle, please make prior arrangements to have it dropped off if you need it.
